Meet Dr. Jacobs

Dr. James Jacobs knew he wanted to pursue a career in dentistry from an early age. His father, Dr. Robert Jacobs, was a general dentist and served as his mentor. Dr. Jacobs began his professional pursuit at Indiana University in Bloomington, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, obtaining his undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry.
He subsequently enrolled at Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Jacobs established his first private practice in Philadelphia after receiving his Certificate in Periodontics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981. There he practiced with the Dean of the University Dr. D. Walter Cohen and Drs. Rose, Seibert, and Vanarsdall.
In 1985, Dr. Jacobs relocated to New York City, where he’s practiced ever since. As a periodontist, he has special interests in dental implants, gum disease, its systemic relationship to the body, and esthetic periodontal treatments as well as laser therapy. He has lectured all over the country and Europe for 30 years on the topic of Cosmetic Periodontal Dentistry and its relationship to Restorative Care.
When he isn’t meeting with patients and developing custom care plans, Dr. Jacobs is passionate about advancing his skills and keeping up with the science and technology relating to the periodontal field. He regularly participates in continuing education courses and speaks at academic meetings throughout the year.
Dr. Jacobs is a recognized specialist with the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington, and sits on the board of directors of the New York County Dental Society. He proudly holds membership in the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, and the New York State Dental Association.
For the last 16 years, Dr. Jacobs has become passionately involved in Organized Dentistry. He has served on the New York City Board of Dentistry for three years before being elected to serve on the Executive Committee leading to President of the New York County Dental Society since 2018. He is on many committees at the city, state, and national levels. He is currently the Chair of Peer Review and Quality Assurance for Manhattan.
Outside the office, Dr. Jacobs enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and two grandchildren. He also enjoys exercising, reading, watching sports, and participating in martial arts. In fact, he’s a third-degree blackbelt in Taekwondo.
